Luted Crucible Metal Casting

Luted Crucible Workshop, Institute of Making, London

“As a professional bronze sculptor it was the most fun and educational workshop I have attended in years. ” Yenny Cocq, Maker Space Santa Fe Workshop, 2018

Piers Watson teaches workshops on the Luted Crucible metal casting process. The Luted Crucible technique is a pre-Industrial, lost wax process, found in the archeological record at the 10th century, that is still in use in parts of India and West Africa but is almost unknown in Europe and North America. The process¬†enables artists to cast metal objects anywhere a few simple natural materials can be collected. Due to it’s efficiency, low cost and low risk to health it has great potential for small scale casting, exploration and experimentation.
